Hotel Review : Peermont Metcourt Hotel at Emperors Palace, Johannesburg

South Africa (Johannesburg) . 2017 . May 15 - 17

This post is part of our South Africa / Zimbabwe / Botswana Trip Report and Itinerary. Do check out the full itinerary and our reviews here

After 5 nights of staying in the wilderness of Kruger National Park (See Day 1, 2, 3, 4, 5), we were finally back to civilisation.  The Peermont Metcourt Hotel at Emperors Palace was the place we would spend 2 nights at in order to explore the rest of Johannesburg before moving on to the next part of our itinerary.

Efficient Check-In

The Peermont Metcourt Hotel at Emperors Palace may just be a 3-star hotel, but everything here speaks of efficiency and class.    Check-in and service was quite brisk, and if there were any discomfort, it would be that there were sometimes just too many guests around except when it is late.  It makes it hard to relax or wind down when you walk into this hotel.

Comfortable and Soundproof Room

The room was rather pleasing and of a comfortable size, and although the Peermont Metcourt Hotel at Emperors Palace faces the airport, there was no noise pollution from the activities of the airport.

Separate shower and toilet facilities makes it so much easier when there is more than one person occupying the room.

A curtain separates the shower and toilet facilities from the bed, and it causes minimal disturbance to your partner for any late night use of the bathroom.

Complimentary coffees and teas.

From the window, we had a rather good view of the O.R Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.

The Facilities and Common Areas

The Peermont Metcourt Hotel at Emperors Palace provides a complimentary shuttle to the O.R. Tampo International Airport. Shuttles run from 6am to 11pm, and a prior booking is required at the reception counter.

The pool facilities which we never had the time to make use of.

The Gym, which we also had no time to enjoy.

The entire hotel is pretty self sufficient with restaurants and even vending machines, so it makes sure that guests need not venture anywhere else for their needs.

The business centre.

The reception desk and lobby at night is a far contrast from the briskness of the daytime.

The lift lobby and the corridors.

Impressive Breakfast Spread

The most memorable part of our stay at the Peermont Metcourt Hotel at Emperors Palace must be its impressive breakfast spread.   If you are staying here, be sure to ask for a room rate that includes breakfast, because it is very much worth it.  Breakfast is served at the in-house restaurant FLAG.

A very good variety of fresh fruits.

Cold hams and cheeses.

Breads and scones….

Cornflakes…

Fresh juices….

Hot items and egg stations…

Convenient Location

The Peermont Metcourt Hotel at Emperors Palace is located near the O.R Tampo International Airport, which makes it extremely convenient for anyone who is visiting Johannesburg on a short-term basis.  In addition, as the hotel itself is quite a self-contained city, we also find it is also extremely safe as compared to the rest of Johannesburg.

Just opposite to the Peermont Metcourt Hotel at Emperors Palace is the more exclusive Peermont Metcourt Suites, and beyond that, the Convention Centre at Emperors Palace.

The Convention Centre at Emperors Palace is just like Singapore's very own Suntec City and Convention Centre, where large scale meetings and exhibitions are held.   There’s also a casino, cinema and many shops and restaurants.

You may mistaken this for Las Vegas’ Caesar Palace, but this is actually the Convention Centre at Emperors Palace, modelled to look exactly the same.

Casino, just like Vegas.

There's even a cinema.

Meal Options

Missing chinese food after so many days, we had dinner at the one and only Chinese restaurant here which serves really mediocre chinese cuisine at a high price - not recommended at all.

The following evening was a lot better, with dinner at a African restaurant called Tribes, which serves very good ostrich meat (our new favourite) at a much more decent price than the Chinese restaurant.

Ostrich Meat - taste a bit like Steak.

Congo Mushrooms and Pork Chops. Total bill works out to be ZAR 389 (approximate SGD 42).
