If the Esplanade by the Bay is one distinctive landmark in Singapore, then it’s equivalent, the Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre is certainly just as iconic to Reykjavik, Iceland.

Located by the Old Harbour near the Reykjavik City Centre, the newly constructed Harpa Concert Hall and Conference centre stands out as a gleaming glass giant perched at the edge of the harbour.  Blessed with majestic views of mountains as its backdrop, this piece of architecture is indeed an eye-turner for any visitor to Reykjavik.

On our last day at Reykjavik Iceland, we visited Laugavegur shopping street, the Old Harbour, Hallgrimskirkja Church, had lunch at Icelandic Fish and Chips, coffee at Cafe Stofan and Cafe Haiti, visited Harpa and finally ended the day with dinner at Sjavargrillid Seafood Grill.

Thinking back, that was a lot to cover in a day!  Which explains why we didn’t spend much time inside Harpa despite its very beautiful architecture.  I wished we had more time to attend a musical or a concert, but nothing seemed to catch my fancy during the few short days we had in Reykjavik, and we ended up admiring the interior of the great building.

The glass facade covers the entire building and was designed by a renowned visual artist.

It was daylight when we walked into Harpa and nightfall by the time we walked out.  That means that we got to see the two different faces of Harpa!

I prefer the night view of Harpa with its sparkling lights as it looks a lot more romantic.

We were blessed with snowfall as well, so it added on to the charm of Harpa.

Harpa is certainly a beautiful piece of modern architecture and we would definitely go for a concert if we visit Iceland again next time!
