The best gelato in the whole of Vancouver can be found at Bella Gelateria, at the Fairmont Pacific Rim, exclaimed the driver of the shuttle bus service to the Capilano Suspension Bridge as we drove past the Fairmont.   And just like that, my interest was piqued.

We soon found that Bella Gelateria was the winner of several international awards, and its fame and popularity had extended far and wide in Vancouver.

At 3 pm, we arrived at the Fairmont Pacific to find that an insanely long queue had formed outside the small outfit of the Bella Gelateria.

I hate queues, but this was what I would subject myself to just to have a taste of the legendary gelato of the Bella Gelateria.

We only managed to see the inside of the small cafe after more than an hour of queuing.

Time to have a good look at the menu.  There are 30 flavours to choose from, and the cafe’s policy was to let every customer sample at most 3 flavours before ordering.  From standard flavours such as chocolate to unique ones like the Thai Coconut Milk, I am spoilt for choice.  The menu may have changed by now, so for the latest update, do check out their website.

Our eventual choice after sampling.

My choice was a Sorbetto cup of 2 flavours - Mango Mango Mango and Meyer Lemon & Zest. Both were very refreshing and flavourful.  Definitely worth the >1 hr of queuing time, although I cringe at the very thought of having to queue again.

Another 2-flavour cup comprising of Toasted pecan & Maldon Sea Salt and Earl Grey gelato.   Both flavours are highly recommended.

Total damage done to our pockets for this gelato experience was CAD$13.50 (about SGD$15), which would be almost the same price for gelatos in Singapore.

Verdict

Yes, definitely a must-try, even if you have to queue for it.  No trip to Vancouver is complete without experiencing its best gelato in town.

How to get to Bella Gelateria?
