Once an industrial district, Yaletown today has developed into one of Vancouver’s most sought-after neighbourhood.  Situated in the southeastern portion of downtown Vancouver, it is bordered by False Creek and by Robson and Homer Streets.

From our lodgings at the YWCA Hotel Vancouver, it was relatively easy for us to spend 15 mins to walk to Yaletown to explore this stylish, and historical district of Vancouver.

Dining and Bars

Yaletown is home to many of the city’s trendiest restaurants, bars and night spots, and boutique shops. Hamilton Street and Mainland Street are two of the busiest streets for nightlife in Vancouver. Both streets have a great collection of bars and restaurants which makes it such a hip place for social gatherings.  An excellent to spend the evening.

It is hard to believe that this modern neighborhood was once the Western terminus for the Canadian Pacific Railway.  In fact, its old redbrick warehouses were built to include exterior platforms to allow for easy loading of textiles onto trains.  Today, these same warehouses and platforms are repositioned as outdoor refreshment areas for diners to enjoy some alfresco dining.

Shopping and Souvenirs

There's lots of local shopping options, cool boutiques and unique items that the mostly locally-owned stores offer.  The things here are upmarket and stylish, but they do not look like what ordinary folks could easily afford.  If you are in for some serious shopping, Robson Street will still be your best bet. Still Yaletown will be a good hunting ground for unique and quirky items.

Join us next as we dine at Frankie’s Italian Kitchen and Bar at the Georgian Court Hotel.
